Katelin Koontz

EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Therapist

…Because We Believe You Matter.

Hi there!

My name is Katelin, and I am a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern (RMHCI) and EMDR therapist. I am passionate about helping individuals overcome trauma and distressing life events through the use of EMDR therapy and mindfulness-based approaches.

I studied Psychology at Mississippi State University and went on to obtain my Masters of Counseling degree from Troy University in Tampa, FL. My training and experience in the mental health field have gifted me the opportunity to develop a diverse set of clinical skills while working with adolescents, young adults, and adults in various women’s residential settings and outpatient mental health settings.

I have provided group and individual counseling to many survivors of trauma including human trafficking, childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, assault, and rape. I am well-versed in working with individuals who are living with trauma, anxiety, stress, burnout, grief, depression, and relationship issues. I am confident in helping individuals build confidence, maintain healthy relationships, increase self-awareness, boost self-worth, and feel empowered.

How I Practice

Therapy is a journey and my intention is to guide you through this process of self-discovery and to finding peace within. I seek to meet individuals where they are at in their healing process and help them reach their desired destination by utilizing an integrative mind-body approach to treat the whole person.

I tailor the pace and style of therapy to meet your unique needs, after all, this journey is all about you. Our sessions are a collaborative space where we work together to develop skills and strategies to build your mental toolbox. In our work together, I take the time to truly get to know you so you feel seen, heard, and understood. I aim to create a space where you can feel safe speaking up if one of my recommendations just isn’t right for you.

I specialize in using EMDR therapy and mindfulness-based approaches to help you recover from old wounds and develop a more integrated sense of self. EMDR can provide rapid relief to individuals leading to a decrease in the emotional distress and physiological arousal that is often the result of traumatic experiences.

I incorporate mindfulness-based approaches to help individuals gain body awareness and learn to observe thoughts and feelings without judgment in order to develop a greater sense of self-awareness and regulation. I also incorporate the practice of Yoga into sessions to help you release “stuck” emotions in your body, helping you to heal not just emotionally but physically.

Trauma disconnects you from your true authentic self oftentimes leaving you feeling unsafe in your own skin. This is where our work together begins – reconnecting and coming back to the safe place within yourself. I strive to create a safe space where you can rest, grow, heal, and develop a deeper understanding of self on your journey to wholeness.
