Because We Believe You Matter

Elena founded Very Good Counseling in 2021. As a therapist, she finds that specializing in EMDR therapy elevates her abilities to help individuals with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Passionate about freeing people from years of negative thoughts and destructive habits, Elena is committed to helping individuals find liberation from their past, embracing their truest selves.

Right now we are accepting both online counseling referrals and in-person counseling referrals. We specialize in Trauma, College Mental Health, Anxiety, Depression, Life Changes, and handling Toxic relationships.

We are located in Fort Myers, FL but with access to online counseling to anyone in the State of Florida. This is exciting because the pandemic has been especially hard for people to see a therapist or any provider regularly.

When people start exploring counseling they often ask us about online counseling. We wanted to answer these questions and help others understand what is the best type of counseling for them.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Online Therapy?

Many people are likely to need some mental health support due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of adults with depression symptoms more than tripled between March 2020 and September 2020. With ongoing COVID-19 variants still present the need for online counseling has not gone away.

Certain disorders and issues may be better suited for virtual therapy than others. It’s usually appropriate and effective to address anxiety disorders, body image issues and guilt issues with online therapy.

People seeking personal growth and the children of alcoholics can benefit from the online therapy format as well, according to a study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology.

Situations not appropriate for online therapy, according to the study, include:

  • Suicidal thoughts.
  • Borderline personality disorder.
  • Thought disorders, which may include symptoms of delusions, hallucinations and disorganized thinking that are associated with disorders like schizophrenia.
  • Medical issues that aren’t well monitored.

Who Is Not Suitable for Online Counseling?

While online therapy can be an effective form of treatment, it’s not right for everyone. Specifically, some providers note that online therapy might not be a good fit if you are in an urgent crisis, a minor under the care of a legal guardian, required to attend therapy by the court or other authority or if you don’t have a reliable internet connection.
